Does Cegid Have Finite Capacity Scheduling? Cegid PMI, Primavera and SkyPlanner APS
Partly. Cegid PMI plans manufacturing orders (OF) at infinite capacity first, then plans at finite capacity on resources and stock. Cegid itself recommends connecting advanced planning tools to go further on planning constraints. Cegid Primavera plans graphically, with an algorithm that suggests a sequence. Plants that want every machine, person, tool and material scheduled finitely, and a plan that keeps itself current, run SkyPlanner APS beside Cegid.
This article covers Cegid’s manufacturing ERPs: Cegid PMI in France first, then Cegid Primavera Manufacturing in Portugal and Cegid Ekon XRP Industria in Spain.
How Cegid schedules, step by step
1. Technical data: articles, nomenclatures and gammes
Cegid PMI holds articles, nomenclatures and gammes in its design office (bureau d’études) module. CAD data can come in through standardized XML files. Each gamme lists operations on postes de charge and machines.
2. OF from orders or the CBN
PMI creates OF automatically: “Générez automatiquement la mise en production depuis la commande client ou le CBN (calcul de besoin net) permettant la création d’ordres de fabrication (OF) fermes et prévisionnels.” (Production is launched from the customer order or the net requirements run, as firm and planned OF.) (Cegid PMI)
At quoting time, a production simulation gives the manufacturing lead time.
3. Infinite capacity planning
The first planning step is infinite. PMI gives “des OF planifiés à capacité infinie pour vous permettre de gérer rapidement les charges et surcharges, la file d’attente”. The planner sees the load, the overloads and the queue per poste.
4. Finite capacity planning on resources and stock
The second step is “la planification à capacité finie tenant compte des contraintes de vos ressources et des stocks.” (Cegid PMI) Cegid then points beyond it: “Connectez des outils de planification avancée pour aller plus loin dans la gestion des contraintes de planification.” In other words, Cegid recommends an APS for constraints beyond resources and stock.
5. Shop-floor tracking per poste
Operators and supervisors follow OF per poste: “consultez facilement les prochains OF prévus pour les heures ou jours suivants.” Consumption and production come in through handheld terminals and barcode scanning, time on OF through barcode pointages, and an MES interface is available.
6. Cegid Primavera: graphical planning with an algorithm
In Cegid Primavera Manufacturing, the planner distributes operations over centros de trabalho on a graphical plan. “Se preferir, pode recorrer ao algoritmo de planeamento que sugere a melhor alternativa de escalonamento para as operações.” The planner can simulate alternative plans and run diagnostics to choose (Cegid Primavera). In the V10 API, each OF operation carries its tools and molds (FerramentasMoldes).
7. Cegid Ekon XRP Industria
Ekon generates hojas de ruta, listas de materiales and órdenes de trabajo from the órdenes de fabricación, and collects imputaciones on the floor or in the office (Cegid Ekon).
What stays with the planner
- Two planning passes. In PMI, infinite planning shows the overloads, and the finite step works on resources and stock.
- Constraints beyond resources and stock. Cegid sends these to advanced planning tools, in its own words.
- The final decision in Primavera. The algorithm suggests; the planner simulates and picks the plan.
- Replanning after changes. A breakdown, a rush order or a late delivery means the planner runs the planning again.
When Cegid scheduling is enough
Cegid’s built-in planning does the job when:
- A few key postes de charge set the pace, and the rest have spare capacity.
- Planning on machines and stock is accurate enough for your delivery promises.
- Changeovers are short or do not depend on the product that ran before.
- Operators and shared tools do not decide the order of work.
- One planner can review and adjust the plan once a week.
If that fits, keep gamme times and poste calendars realistic, and run the finite planning after each CBN.
When you need a finite capacity scheduler
You have outgrown the built-in planning when several of these are true:
- Delivery dates slip although the load per poste looks fine.
- The planner resequences OF by hand after every rush order or breakdown.
- Setup time depends on the product that ran before.
- Operators, shifts and absences limit output as much as machines do.
- Molds, dies or fixtures move between machines.
- Late components decide which OF can start.
What to look for
- Every resource finite at once: machines, people and tools.
- Operation-level sequencing by priorities and due dates.
- A setting time matrix with sequence-dependent, asymmetric setup times.
- Tools as finite shared resources and multi-operator jobs.
- Material-aware scheduling that checks stock and incoming supplier orders.
- Automatic rescheduling when production progress or orders change.
- A clean Cegid data path. Reads and writes through the PMI Web API or the PRIMAVERA V10 API. Ask every vendor how dates reach your OF and who supports it after go-live.
The options fall into three groups:
- Cegid’s built-in planning: PMI’s infinite and finite planning, Primavera’s graphical planning.
- APS and planning tools connected to Cegid: constraint schedulers, general resource planners and MES with planning, usually run by a planning team.
- Cloud APS with shop-floor execution, where SkyPlanner sits. It schedules every resource automatically beside Cegid and puts the plan in operators’ hands.

Where SkyPlanner fits
SkyPlanner APS is an advanced planning tool of exactly the kind Cegid recommends connecting. Every workstation, person and tool is finite. The Arcturus AI engine builds an operation-level schedule in seconds, sequenced by job priority, completion date, customer priority, Fast Track and Dynamic Priorities.
Its setting time matrix holds the setup time between each pair of products in both directions, and the engine picks the order with the least setup. “Allow similarity” groups jobs by a property such as a tool. Tools are finite shared resources, several people can work the same job at once, and work moves to alternative machines or personnel when the primary one is unavailable.
Material-driven scheduling simulates future inventory from stock and incoming supplier orders, so an OF is planned when its components are there. Autopilot reschedules automatically when production changes, and Running Time Lock freezes the next hours of work so the floor is not disrupted. Operators log work on phone or tablet with Mobile Confirmations, Production Timer and Quick Log Mode.
Choose SkyPlanner over Cegid’s built-in planning when:
- Constraints go beyond resources and stock. Cegid describes PMI’s finite planning as working on resources and stock, and recommends advanced planning tools for more (Cegid PMI). SkyPlanner plans machines, operators, tools, setups and material in one run.
- The plan must keep itself current. In Primavera the algorithm suggests and the planner decides (Cegid Primavera). Autopilot replans automatically on every meaningful change.
- Changeovers decide your output. The setting time matrix and “Allow similarity” plan setups on every schedule.
- Every operator should see the plan. Users are unlimited, and Mobile Confirmations put the queue on every phone or tablet.
Start with an Excel export of open Cegid OF in the 30-day free trial (up to 20 workstations, all Basic features, no credit card). After that, pricing is from 199 € per month with 5 workstations included, billed monthly. The integration is quoted up front for your process and needs, together with your plan.
SkyPlanner integrates with Cegid in both directions: OF and operations come in, and planned operation dates and logged time go back, through the PMI Web API or the PRIMAVERA V10 API. The SkyPlanner team configures it during onboarding, and your partner or developers can work on the documented REST API. See the SkyPlanner for Cegid page, the Cegid integration guide or all ERP integrations.

FAQ
Is Cegid PMI planning finite or infinite capacity?
Both, in two steps. PMI first plans OF at infinite capacity to show loads, overloads and the queue, then plans at finite capacity on resources and stock. Cegid recommends advanced planning tools for further constraints.
Does Cegid Primavera have a planning algorithm?
Yes. Primavera Manufacturing plans graphically over centros de trabalho, and a planning algorithm suggests the best scheduling alternative. The planner simulates alternative plans and decides.
Can SkyPlanner plan sequence-dependent setups for Cegid OF?
Yes. SkyPlanner’s setting time matrix stores setup times between product pairs in both directions, for example blue to red and red to blue, and sequences Cegid OF to minimize total setup on every replan.
Can SkyPlanner write planned dates back to Cegid?
Yes. Planned start and end dates go back per OF operation through the PMI Web API. In Primavera they go to each ordem de fabrico operation through the Planeamento service, and logged time through Diários de Trabalho.
Can I test SkyPlanner before integrating it with Cegid?
Yes. Import open OF, gammes and postes de charge from Cegid as Excel or CSV during the 30-day trial and compare the schedule with your current plan. See pricing, start the trial or talk to sales.
