Why furniture production is hard to schedule
Many parts, many variants, one delivery date
A furniture or cabinet order is not one item. It is dozens or hundreds of parts that travel through different machines at different speeds and must all meet again at assembly.
One order, many parts
A kitchen or an office fit-out means carcasses, fronts, drawers, shelves and worktops. Delivery waits for the last missing door, not the first finished cabinet.
Every order is a variant
Sizes, decors, colours, edge profiles and handles change from customer to customer, so the same product family runs through the plant in a different form every day.
Setups depend on material
Changing board thickness, decor or edge band colour costs setup time on the saw, the CNC and the edge bander. Running similar work back to back cuts that setup time.
Finishing takes waiting time
Lacquer, stain and oil need time to dry before sanding, the next coat or assembly can start. Ignore it and the plan promises parts that are still wet.
Shared machines and skilled people
Panel saws, CNC routers and edge banders serve every order, and assembly depends on people who are on shift and available.
Spreadsheets lose the parts
A spreadsheet or the ERP’s planning screen loads machines without limits and cannot tell which fronts belong to which carcasses. One late board delivery means hours of rework.
SkyPlanner keeps every part tied to its order. It loads the saw, the CNC and the edge bander to real capacity, sequences similar boards together and rebuilds the plan in seconds when a router stops or a customer changes a front.
Complete orders, scheduled as one
Every part ready for assembly. The whole order ready for delivery.
A finished cabinet without its doors cannot ship. SkyPlanner schedules each part and sub-assembly as part of the order it belongs to, so the components converge on assembly and the order on its delivery date.
Parts and sub-assemblies in one structure
Carcasses, fronts, drawers and worktops are sub-products with their own process steps. Multi-level BOMs make sure every sub-product is scheduled to finish before the assembly step that needs it.
The whole order counts
An order is on time only when all its items and process steps are complete. If any part would miss the delivery date, the order shows as late, so the planner sees it before the customer does.
Built at the right time
Schedule forward as soon as possible, or switch an order or the whole plant to just-in-time so parts are made close to assembly and delivery instead of filling the floor weeks early.
How SkyPlanner schedules a furniture plant
From panel saw to assembly bench, one plan that fits
SkyPlanner schedules to the capacity you really have, with the materials you really have, and shows the same plan on the shop floor.
Finite capacity across saws, CNC, edge banders and people
Each saw, CNC router, edge bander, finishing line and assembly cell has its own shift calendar, and planned maintenance and breakdowns can be entered as exceptions. A changeover matrix by product properties such as board thickness, decor or edge colour lets the scheduler run similar work back to back. Personnel scheduling assigns people to shifts and workstations, so no job lands where nobody can run it.
- No job lands on an unstaffed or blocked machine
- Several plants scheduled together, with transfer times between sites
Parts, materials and drying times
Boards and edge banding become cut and edged parts, parts become sub-assemblies and sub-assemblies become finished furniture. SkyPlanner handles multi-level bills of materials, calculates material needs at every level and, with material-based scheduling on, starts a job only when its materials will be there. A waiting time after a process step, such as lacquer drying, keeps the next step from starting too early while the machine moves on to other work.
- Need dates for boards, fittings and hardware flow back to your ERP
- Due dates for individual process steps, so fronts are finished when assembly needs them
The workshop floor sees the same plan
Operators see their own work queue in a simple worker view or the SkyPlanner shop-floor app. They start, pause and complete jobs and report quantities and scrap as they go, so the schedule always reflects what has actually happened at the saw, the CNC and the assembly bench.
Changed fronts, rush kitchens, a stopped router
A customer changes the decor. The plan is ready in seconds.
When an order is added, a CNC router goes down or a board delivery is late, the Arcturus AI engine rebuilds the schedule in seconds. Lock jobs that must not move, raise priorities or fast-track an urgent order.
- Add a sales prospect as a simulated order and see the earliest realistic delivery date, without disturbing confirmed orders.
- See what accepting a rush order does to every other promise.
- Sales quotes kitchen and fit-out dates from real machine and assembly capacity.
SkyPlanner handles the finite capacity scheduling and which machine each job goes to. It runs completely automatically.

Why furniture makers pick SkyPlanner
Why furniture and cabinet makers run their plants on SkyPlanner
SkyPlanner APS is AI production scheduling software for furniture, cabinet and joinery manufacturers that want every part of an order ready for assembly on time, setups grouped by board and decor, and delivery dates sales can trust, alongside the ERP they already run.
Whole orders, not loose parts
Multi-level BOMs schedule carcasses, fronts, drawers and worktops so each one finishes before the assembly step that needs it. An order counts as on time only when every part is done.
Fewer setups on saw, CNC and edge bander
A changeover matrix by board thickness, decor and edge colour runs similar work back to back, and drying times after lacquer and oil are built into the plan.
New plan in seconds
When a router stops, a board delivery is late or a customer changes a front, the Arcturus AI engine rebuilds the finite-capacity schedule in seconds.
Delivery dates sales can trust
Add a prospect as a simulated order and see a realistic delivery date for the kitchen or fit-out, without disturbing confirmed orders.
Any ERP or MES, or none yet
Start scheduling on its own with CSV import or manual entry. The open REST API connects to any ERP or MES, including in-house systems, built by Skycode or by your own developers.

Questions furniture manufacturers ask
Frequently asked questions
What is the best production scheduling software for furniture manufacturers?
Furniture plants need software that keeps every part tied to its order through multi-level BOMs, groups setups by board, decor and edge colour, and plans drying times before assembly. SkyPlanner APS does all three and rebuilds the finite-capacity schedule in seconds when the day changes. Pricing is published, from 199 € / month, there is a 30-day free trial, and the open REST API integrates with any ERP or MES.
Is SkyPlanner an APS system for furniture and cabinet plants?
Yes. SkyPlanner APS is an advanced planning and scheduling system that builds one finite-capacity schedule for panel saws, CNC routers, edge banders, finishing lines and assembly cells from your orders, part structures, boards and shifts. The Arcturus AI engine optimises the sequence, so the planner sees exactly which kitchen or office order runs on which machine and when.
Can SkyPlanner make sure all parts of a furniture order are ready together?
Yes. Parts and sub-assemblies are set up as sub-products with their own process steps in a multi-level BOM, and each is scheduled to finish before the assembly step that needs it. The order counts as on time only when all its items are complete, and just-in-time scheduling can build parts close to the assembly and delivery date.
How does SkyPlanner cut setups between board thicknesses, decors and edge band colours?
A changeover matrix built on product properties such as board thickness, decor and edge colour tells the scheduler what each switch costs on the saw, the CNC and the edge bander. SkyPlanner then runs similar boards and edge bands back to back. Waiting times after lacquer, stain or oil keep sanding and assembly from starting before the finish has dried, while the machine moves on to other work.
What data moves between a furniture ERP and SkyPlanner?
Sales orders with their variants, products and part structures, boards, fittings and stock, and customer due dates flow in from ERPs such as SAP, Microsoft Dynamics 365 or Cyncly Insight ERP. Planned start and end times, material need dates for boards and hardware, progress and quantities, and delivery dates flow back. SkyPlanner connects to any ERP or MES, including in-house systems, through its open REST API, built by Skycode or by your own developers using the public API documentation.
Does our furniture product catalogue stay in the ERP when we use SkyPlanner?
Yes. Your ERP keeps the product catalogue, pricing, inventory and purchasing of boards and fittings, and SkyPlanner sequences the cutting, machining, edging, finishing and assembly work on top of it. When a customer changes a front or a router stops, SkyPlanner rebuilds the schedule in seconds and the new planned times and material need dates go back to the ERP.
How quickly can a furniture factory get its first schedule running?
Start the free trial today with demo data or your own furniture orders: 30 days, up to 20 workstations, no credit card. Set up your saws, CNC routers, edge banders and assembly cells first, add product structures with carcasses, fronts and drawers, and bring orders in by CSV import or manual entry, so the first schedule runs before any integration. Onboarding workshops then shape SkyPlanner to your plant, including setups by decor and drying times after finishing.
Is SkyPlanner a fit for a joinery workshop as well as a multi-site furniture group?
Yes. Furniture manufacturers of every size use SkyPlanner, from a joinery workshop with a few machines to groups that schedule several plants together with transfer times between sites. Pricing starts from 199 € / month with 5 workstations included and 20 € per month per additional workstation, and the user interface runs in 29 languages for multilingual shop floors and plants in several countries.
