Leveraging Sub-Products for Efficient Production Planning in SkyPlanner #
Production planning can be complex, especially when dealing with products that consist of multiple parts or assemblies. However, SkyPlanner offers an effective solution to overcome this challenge: sub-products. Sub-products are parts or assemblies that have their own separate manufacturing processes, and their use is an essential part of production planning for complex products. In this guide, we dive deeper into creating, managing, and utilizing sub-products in SkyPlanner.
What is a Sub-Product? #
A sub-Product is a component or assembly that is part of a larger Product and has its own manufacturing process. This means that a sub-Product has its own Process Steps that must be carried out before it can be integrated into the main Product. For example, in car manufacturing, one could define the engine assembly, the car body, or even individual parts such as tires or headlights, as sub-products.
Using sub-products brings flexibility and accuracy to production planning. You can define and manage each sub-Product’s Process Steps separately, including resources, schedules, and Order. This helps you to precisely track the completion of each part of the Product and to optimize the use of resources.
Creating Sub-Products in SkyPlanner #
In SkyPlanner, creating sub-products is straightforward and simple. You can add sub-products directly to products in the Product registry as follows:
- Open the SkyPlanner Product registry.
- Select the Product to which you want to add a sub-Product.
- Click the ‘Add Sub-Product’ button.
- Search and select the sub-Product you want to add from the list, or create a new sub-Product.
- Define the necessary Process Steps for the sub-Product, including their Order, required resources, and estimated time.
Managing and Scheduling Sub-Products #
Once you have added sub-products to a Product, SkyPlanner’s AI will handle them as part of the production planning. Each process step of a sub-Product is scheduled to be performed before the main Product’s Process Steps can be started.
You can track the progress and scheduling of sub-products in the production planning view and on the GANTT Timeline. The completion of a sub-Product is shown there as its own process step, which is marked as completed before the next process step of the main Product is started.
Why Use Sub-Products? #
Using sub-products in SkyPlanner enables efficient and flexible production planning for complex products. You can define and manage the manufacturing process of each part of the Product separately, improving resource management, streamlining production, and reducing manufacturing errors.
This approach saves time and effort as you don’t have to manually define and track the manufacturing process of each part of the Product at each production stage. Instead, you can focus on ensuring the smoothness of production and improving Product quality.
Using sub-products is a valuable Tool for anyone looking to streamline their production processes and improve the quality of their products. Try it yourself and see how it can help you reach your production goals!
